Louis Tomlinson has been one of the biggest names in music since he found fame as one fifth of One Direction back in 2010, since then, he’s had a handful of romances
Louis Tomlinson is said to be dating former Love Island star Zara McDermott after the pair were spotted on a cosy “date” at a swanky restaurant. The pair were seen dining together at a hotel in Suffolk where onlookers said they were all smiles throughout their time at the eatery.
“They looked every bit the happy couple,” one onlooker said. The source told how Louis was making Zara “giggle” throughout their dining experience and they struggled to contain their laughter. During their dinner, it’s claimed Louis was the “proper gentleman” towards Zara.
Since finding fame in 2010 as one fifth of One Direction, Louis, 33, often keeps a low profile when it comes to his personal life and rarely shares an insight with fans. Instead, the Don’t Let It Break Your Heart hitmaker chooses to use his social media to promote his music projects, as well as his most recent 28 clothing collection.
But who has Louis dated in the past? Well, despite being part of the biggest boyband in the world, Louis has only had a handful of relationships that have been made public. Here, we take a look back at his love life and his past girlfriends, including a very famous actress.
Hannah Walker
Prior to finding fame, Louis dated Hannah Walker in March 2010. However, the couple decided to split just one year later due to the strain of a long distance relationship when he was catapulted to fame. At the time, a source close to Louis told MailOnline that his and Hannah’s relationship “wasn’t working.”
Walker and Louis met when they performed in a college production of Grease together at Hall Cross Sixth Form College in his hometown of Doncaster, South Yorks. “When I look at him on the television now I know him as two different people – one is the boy from Doncaster, and the other is Louis from One Direction,” she said previously.
Following their split, Hannah later took to social media to confirm that she and Louis were “still best friends.” Louis responded to her post, writing: “Best, best friends. Always.”
Louis started dating Eleanor in 2011, with the pair later becoming the “it couple.” They were often seen together on red carpet events and Eleanor following Louis around the country as he hit the road with his bandmates. In 2012, the couple gave fans a brief insight into their romance.
As they sat poolside watching Tom Daley compete in the London 2012 Olympics, Louis turned to Eleanor and gave her a string of several kisses as they watched the divers compete in awe. However, Louis and Eleanor split in March 2015 after three years of dating. A spokesperson at the time told US Weekly: “Louis and Eleanor split up two weeks ago.
“They have not announced this as they wanted some privacy during this time.” But that wasn’t the ending of their relationship, the pair reunited with one another in 2017. Three years later, Louis gave a rare insight into his life and and revealed he hoped to settle down with Calder.
“If you’re asking me if I’m going to marry her? Yes, I think so! And more kids, I’d say so,” he told The Sun. Louis explained that he had known Eleanor since before One Direction released their debut single, What Makes You Beautiful. Louis and Eleanor reunited in 2017 and even headed to Glastonbury festival with one another that summer.
On January 2, 2023, Eleanor sparked rumours that she and Louis had split up. Before ringing in the New Year, Eleanor treated her followers to a series of photos and videos from her 2022 adventures. Fans were quick to notice that Louis was conspicuously missing from all the shared memories. In one particular photo, the model is seen getting cosy with an unidentified man who’s seen planting a kiss on her cheek, while Eleanor beams brightly at the camera.
However, after five years, they split that month. “It put pressure on their relationship, Louis being away for so long,” a source said. They went on to tell The Sun: “Other things have gone down between them and for now, at least, they have split up. They have mutual friends and a long history, so at the moment it doesn’t look like a reunion at some point is completely off the cards. But now they are not together.”
Briana Jungwirth
Following his initial split from Eleanor, Louis enjoyed a brief romance with American stylist, Briana in May of 2015. Just two months later, it emerged that Louis and Briana were expecting a child together. At the time, sources claimed they couldn’t have been “more excited” and that Louis was looking for a new home closer to Briana in Los Angeles.
In January 2016, they welcomed their son, Freddie, with Louis confirming the news on social media. He said: “I’m pleased to say my baby son was born yesterday. He is healthy and pretty amazing. I’m very happy!” While Louis kept tight lipped throughout Briana’s pregnancy, he did speak on US television about fatherhood.
When congratulated by an interviewer, he said: “Thank you, yeah, erm, obviously it’s a very exciting time, so, err, I’m buzzing, thank you.” Louis had previously shared glimpses of him and his son Freddie on social media but in recent years, has guarded his son from social media.
He did, however, appear in Louis’ biographical movie, All Of Those Voices as his young son quizzed him on whether he was “excited” for a concert. Clips saw the youngster stood in the audience supporting his father with a large banner as he watched on in complete admiration for the Doncaster cheeky chap.
Danielle Campbell
Weeks before welcoming his son, it emerged that Louis was dating American actress, Danielle Campbell who appeared in the Disney movie, Starstruck. The couple were seen packing on the affection during a trip to Chicago. As rumours about their relationship continued to swirl, the pair kept a low profile.
This, however, changed in April 2016 when they went Instagram official. Louis took to Instagram, sharing a snap of himself kissing Danielle’s cheek alongside the caption: “Lucky.” Just one month later, they made their first official red carpet appearance, attending the Monaco Grand Prix.
That summer, Danielle was also on hand to support Louis as he and his bandmate Niall Horan played Soccer Aid for UNICEF at Manchester’s Old Trafford. But months before they decided to call it a day in January 2017, Louis stepped out with Danielle at the Mirror’s Pride of Britain Awards in October 2016.
Zara McDermott
Strictly star Zara and Louis were seen together just weeks after her split from Sam Thompson. But before they were spotted in public, many fans noticed a telltale sign. Louis’ fans noticed that Louis and his sisters Lottie, Daisy and Phoebe all followed Zara on Instagram. She also followed his sisters which added to the speculation.
Former Love Island star Zara and Louis were seen giggling and holding hands while they dined on £100 fish and chips plus cocktails during the outing. “They looked every bit the happy couple,” one onlooker said of the hot new couple. Zara and Louis were spotted at Aldeburgh’s The Suffolk where rooms cost up to £315 a night.
The guest who snapped the pictures of the two stars tucking into their £100 whole brill and chips remarked how the pair looked like they were “having a great time” as they touched hands across the table. They noted how “Zara had a few cocktails” and “Louis was really making her giggle” as they spoke for ages in the swanky venue.
However, some fans believed that there may be something else happening behind the scenes. Taking to Reddit, fans aired their thoughts. One said: “Obviously, following a person on instagram doesn’t mean that people are in a relationship, lol, But, I just find it weird, and I am scared that this will be a new stunt. Especially since I’ve read about them many times. Louis is having a concert in London today, and I’m just waiting for Zara to be spotted there or that she post a story from the concert.”
Hinting that it may be a publicity stunt, they added: “Also we are overdue for a stunt from Louis, he has been publicly single for three years, I would not be surprised if we see him with a girl when his new album is released then they have to ‘break up’ when he goes on tour.” However some also believe that Louis and Zara’s connection could be work related. Zara has previously fronted a string of BBC documentaries and rumours have recently swirled suggesting that Louis’ younger sisters, Daisy and Phoebe could be set to open their doors for their own TV show.
In the past, Louis has previously slammed Love Island, the show which made Zara famous. When asked if he was watching the ITV show Louis said: “I’m not. Made the mistake of watching previous years but enough is enough. It’s not a good message for the younger people watching.”
